This year from 22 to 30 October in Baku will be the next International Jazz Festival 2016, traditionally organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan. The grand opening of the festival will be held on October 22 in the Heydar Aliyev Palace. Famous musicians from the USA, Canada, France, Germany, Holland, Russia, Ukraine and other countries will perform alongside with Azerbaijani musicians in the framework of the festival.

It should be noted that the Baku International Jazz Festival has been held in Baku since 2005. The festival is held annually in Baku in October each year. Both foreign jazz stars and Azerbaijani jazz musicians take part in the festival. Jazz festival is organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan. Within the framework of the festival concerts are held in the Baku Jazz Center, International Mugham Center, in the Heydar Aliyev Palace and in the Az Filarmonia.

As organizers of the Baku International Music Festival promise in 2016, within the framework of the festival about 65 various concerts and events are expected on various platforms of the Azerbaijani capital.

In particular, Gabriel Grossi’s trio will perform in Baku within the framework of the International Jazz Festival-2016. The concert will be held October 22 at 19.00 at the International Mugham Center (ticket prices – 20-60 manats).

Gabriel Grossi – one of the most famous and virtuosic performers on the harmonica, opens up the unexplored so far its possibilities.

In addition, on October 22 at 19.00 on the stage the Heydar Aliyev Palace will host a concert of young domestic jazz performers. In the jazz evening of jAzzeri Bands, famous jazz compositions (the cost of tickets – 10-30 manats) will sound.

On October 23, at 17.00, within the framework of the Baku International Jazz Festival 2016 in Art Garden, a concert of Georgian jazz musician Irakli Koiava and the duo will take place.

Since the beginning of his career, the musician has presented music of different genres, various author’s improvisations and interesting musical finds. The percussionist has a set of self-made instruments, the copyright on which belongs to him. The collection of musical instruments of Irakli is diverse: a rubber hose, cartridges from hunting cartridges, a Georgian nut.

The Swedish trio Plunge will also perform in Baku on October 23 at the International Mugham Center at 19.00 at the Baku International Jazz Festival 2016.

Formed in 2001, musicians based in Malmo, worked a lot on various improvisations and acoustic music. Trio composition: Andreas Andersson-saxophone, Matias Hjortbas, Peter Nilsson-percussion. (The ticket price is 10-40 manat).

The concert of Antonio Lizan and his band will be held on October 23 at 20.00 at the Rotunda Jazz Club as part of the International Jazz Festival 2016 in Baku.

Antonio Lizana began to learn how to play the saxophone at the age of 10 at the Conservatory of Music in San Fernando. His first meeting with jazz took place when he joined the jazz seminars held by Jerry Bergontsi, Dick Oates, Perico Sambit (Cost of the btlet – 10-50 manats).

Following Antonio Lizan October 23 at 22.00 in the Rotunda Jazz Club a concert of French jazzman Pierre de Tregoman will be held within the framework of the Baku International Jazz Festival 2016. The audience will be presented with an interesting concert program. (The cost of tickets is 20-60 manats).

Note that Pierre de Tregoman already visited Baku earlier this year to study the ancient heritage of Azerbaijani musical art – mugam. A guest from France studied mugham from the famous khanende Gochag Askerov. The visit was held with the assistance of UNESCO expert, musicologist Sanuber Bagirova.

Pierre de Tregoman is a talented performer, in love with Azerbaijani music. He studied two of the seven major mughams of Azerbaijani music – Rast and Bayati Shiraz, and then folk songs Garabag shikestesi and Sarah Gyalin.

According to Pierre de Trehomain, mugham is the national treasure of the Azerbaijani people, to which Europe is treated with great reverence. “The artistic value of the Azerbaijani mugham, its high significance for both national culture and the culture of all mankind were recognized in 2003 by such an authoritative international institution as UNESCO, which declared it one of the masterpieces of the oral and intangible heritage of mankind. In addition, within the framework of the Baku International Jazz Festival 2016 on October 24 at 19.00 at the International Mugham Center in front of the Baku public American vocalist Deborah Carter will perform.

Deborah J. Carter was born in the US, and grew up in Hawaii and Japan. Deborah Carter often performs at jazz festivals, in the best world jazz clubs, sings a lot on radio and television, both with his trio and with other compositions, for example, with the likes of The Metropole Orchestra, Frank HRT HR Orchestra, Sedavi Latin Jazz Big Band, Berlin Jazz Orchestra, The American Songbook Orchestra, The Ruud Bos Big Band and The Dutch Swing College Band.

As a jazz vocalist, composer and arranger – Deborah brings to her music foreign influences that distinguish her personal style from everything else.

Music Maker magazine commented on Carter’s work as “absolutely first-class”, Deborah really is one of the most exciting jazz vocalists on the European jazz scene. It can boast not only an enticing, bewitching voice and sharpened jazz technique, but also a completely contagious enthusiasm and scenic energy. Deborah Carter’s working schedule is packed with jazz festivals, participation in radio shows, joint performances with famous musicians and his own concerts throughout Europe. Her performance captures with her power and free improvisations, her concerts are a sparkling cocktail of contrasts of different cultures, styles and ages. (The ticket price is 10-40 manat).

October 26 at 19.00 in the Heydar Aliyev Palace within the framework of the Baku International Music Festival-2016 a concert of young jazz performer Omar will take place.

Young, progressive jazz innovator Omar, showed himself in the jazz world as a revolutionary, and thus got into the leading jazz charts. (The cost of tickets is 30-190 manats).

It should be noted that in the framework of the regular Baku International Festival 2016, many more concerts and events will take place, in which both domestic and foreign jazz performers and groups will take part.
